Meet The Minecrafters : Keisha-Gaye Anderson is a student in The City College MFA in Creative Writing program. She is a mother of two and also a poet, fiction writer, essayist, and journalist. Digital Literacies has opened her world to new realms of creative expression.
Mabel is studying for her MA in Language and Literacy at City College. She is very proud of having tried video games seriously for the first time (even though she was born in the video games era) but a deep fear of zombies (and losing) have scared her away to creative mode only games.
Jennifer is currently a graduate student in the Language & Literacy program at The City College of New York, a full-time employee at one of the world's leading children's book publishers, and an expectant mom for the first time. She's never been interested in computer games nor has she ever played one until was asked to play Minecraft for this class. It's been challenging in many ways, and she's intimidated by the creations of her classmates, but she's quickly come to enjoy playing it.
Regan Connolly is a graduate student at City College in the Language and Literacy program. She works full time in real estate in Manhattan and she has just recently developed a Harlem tour of which she plans to take digital. The “Digital Literacies” summer class has been both terrifying and liberating. The class has been terrifying because of the unknown difficulties when producing essays in a nontraditional format; liberating because it has allowed for trying new things.
Jon DelCegno-- Hello fellow minecraftians! While I'm not reconstructing the Sistine Chapel block by block, or evading perilous cults of creepers, I'm a graduate student by trade. I have had the luxury of sharing my experience at City College with brilliant academics. Perhaps they have influenced some of my finest creations. I challenge you to make it to the Nether World! Nodira is a graduate student enrolled in the Language and Literacy Program at The City College of New York. I am glad that I have this opportunity to explore and use my creativity in Digital Literacy course. I like the collaborative work we are performing on Wikispaces. Everybody in class has interesting points, ideas, or images that they post under the each section. To be honest, before I did not play video games like Minecraft. Now I became quite interested in this game because it tests my creative abilities, what I can accomplish by fully emerging into this game. When I am playing the game, I try to make meaning of it. I imagine that I am building the house of my dreams that has everything I want.

Wesley Mathewson pays his rent with money earned by driving a truck and moving other people's possessions around. He has never moved. He has lived nearly 29 years in Inwood, a lovely neighborhood in northern Manhattan that is still keeping it real. In addition to pursuing his MA in Language and Literacy at CCNY, he plays drums, writes unpublishable gibberish, and rides his bicycle like it's his job. He is digitally competent, but a Luddite by preference. He believes Facebook is in cahoots with the CIA.
Nargiza is a graduate student, studying in the Language and Literacy Program at City College of New York. I'm enjoying the Digital Literacies class I'm taking this summer, and I need to admit that I started to play online video games for the first time in this class. I love creativity and therefore very excited to build an incredible house. P.S. To accomplish that, I need to stick to the Creative Mode rather than the Survival one in Minecraft like Mabel and my other classmates who like to play safe and creative.
Jessica is a master's candidate in City College's Language and Literacy Program. When not in school, she is teaching, kickboxing, writing or, as of late, trying to resist playing Minecraft so that she can actually get something done.
TJ is enjoying taking courses to enrich her current body of knowledge. She has officially transitioned to becoming addicted to Minecraft...
Lisa Quinones Fontanez is a secretary by day, grad student/blog writer by night and Mom round the clock. Her writing has been featured on several blog sites including Parents.com. Prior to taking this class, she had absolutely no interest in playing Minecraft. As a result of this class, Lisa (aka LaliQuin) has spent more time playing Minecraft (creative mode only, since she has a fear of zombies) than she'd care to admit.
Katherine Robbins is a graduate of the Educational Theatre Department at CCNY and is taking English classes to further her professional career as a teacher. She is an actress and teaching artist. She likes dogs and traveling.
Liberata Kadende is a graduate student in Language and Literacy program at City College of New York. She is currently taking Digital Literacies class, and enjoying gaming online, a thing that never been part of her life before taking this class. She works in a charter school where she teaches elementary level. Growing in technology is another way of catching up with her students. Liberata could not believe herself playing minecraft, and regardless the frustration of loosing, she could not stop from starting over the game. She is acquiring a new identity in digital literacies.
David Waldron is a handsome young graduate student studying Language and Literacy at the City College of New York. He gets paid via the aforementioned members' tax dollars as he's a New York City Parks and Recreation employee working with the Computer Resource Centers developing curriculum for the adult patrons. He enjoys learning more about digital practices that help him get students more involved. He is also becoming more digitally aware and literate and he appreciates learning more about what he can do with access to all this information. He is currently working at Hostos Community College for an intensive summer program.
